Responsibilities

  • Observe tools and techniques for ethological research.
  • Assist with transferring, organizing, and entering wildlife data from photographs into Wildlife Insights.
  • Document field work through photography and short-form video for web and social media.
  • Create engaging visual content that communicates field research, student experiences, wildlife, and the scientific process.
  • Occasional availability outside standard work hours may be necessary.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

OBSERVATIONAL TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES FOR ETHOLOGICAL RESEARCH

Work-Study: Research and Science Communication Assistant
A hybrid position for a student interested in wildlife research, research data management, fieldwork, and visual science communication.

The OTTER Lab is seeking a reliable, curious student to help move wildlife research from field
photographs to usable data - and to help tell the story of that work through strong visual
content.

Research and data management
Assist with transferring, organizing, and entering wildlife data from photographs maintained in Adobe
Lightroom into Wildlife Insights. This work requires careful attention to detail, consistency, accuracy, and the ability to work independently once trained.

Science communication and field content
Join select research and laboratory field excursions to document the work we do through photography and short-form video. The student will help create engaging visual content that communicates field research, student experiences, wildlife, and the scientific process for web and social-media use.

Qualifications

Who would be a good fit?
The ideal student is reliable, organized, attentive to detail, and interested in wildlife research and science communication. Experience with social media, photography, videography, Adobe Lightroom, or photo/video editing is particularly valuable, but expertise in all of these areas is not required. A strong willingness to learn is.
