Student Tutor Position Description
Tutoring Center Student Tutor Job Description
Purpose

The purpose of tutoring is to tutor students in specific course material and to promote independent learning by integrating study and learning strategies. Student tutors will provide individual and small group tutoring (no more than four students) in subjects where they have earned a grade of B or higher. Tutors will participate in face-to-face and online training to learn effective study and learning strategies. As a team member, tutors must communicate regularly with the Director of the Tutoring Center, primarily via email, and always CC the Director on relevant correspondence.

Responsibilities
  1. Tutor students in specific course material and promote independent learning through individual or small group sessions.
  2. Check email at least once daily, including weekends.
  3. Attend all workshops and seminars offered by the Tutoring Center Director.
  4. Have students sign in and out at the designated kiosk; do not sign in on behalf of students.
  5. Arrive on time for each appointment; if emergencies arise, arrange for a replacement by contacting another tutor or notifying Ms. Greenlee.
  6. Refrain from acting as a teacher, counselor, academic advisor, or financial aid representative. Notify the Director of any outside communication related to these roles.
Position Requirements
  1. Be a currently enrolled Cincinnati State student who has completed at least one full semester.
  2. Ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with students.
  3. Complete the relevant course(s) with a grade of B or higher; A preferred.
  4. Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
  5. Demonstrate responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
  6. Maintain professional behavior at all times.
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet federal work-study eligibility, including:

  • Completion of FAFSA for the current year.
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Be an active Cincinnati State student.
Compensation and Schedule

Hourly Pay: $14.00/hr

Work Hours: Part-time, up to 20 hours/week, during office hours (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), excluding scheduled class times and holidays.
