Job Description
Job Summary: The teacher – elementary school supports the instructional process by providing classroom instruction, supervising students, developing lesson plans, collaborating with staff, and responding to inquiries from students, parents, or guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress.
Essential Functions
- Administers and develops subject‑specific assessments to evaluate student competency and to design individual learning plans.
- Constructs curriculum in the classroom environment to foster future growth and opportunities for students.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians on student progress, expectations, and improvement plans.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to enhance student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
- Counsels students to improve performance, problem‑solving, health, and personal issues.
- Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, ensuring an effective program that meets district requirements.
- Instructs students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
- Manages student behavior and monitors behavior in all educational settings to provide a safe learning environment.
- Participates in meetings and professional development activities to gather and share required information.
- Prepares written materials such as grades, lesson plans, parent correspondence, exams, quizzes, attendance records, and anecdotal records to document progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Reports incidents (altercations, suspected child abuse, substance abuse, harassment, or zero‑tolerance offenses) to maintain safety and comply with state law and board policies.
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns and direct personnel appropriately.
- Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, students, central office staff, and others to resolve issues and provide information.
- Directs assistant teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, or student workers to support classroom programs and address individual student needs.
- Supports other classroom teachers in implementing curriculum and individual student plans.
- Performs additional duties assigned by the Principal or Director of Schools to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
- Adheres to the Tennessee Teacher Code of Ethics with fidelity.

Reporting To
The School Site Principal.

Exempt.

The teacher will adhere to the Tennessee Teacher Code of Ethics, which obligates educators to uphold ethical standards, promote inclusive education, and maintain professional conduct towards students, parents, colleagues, and the community.
Capacity & Ability Requirements
Skill, knowledge, and abilities required to perform the role include:
- Assessment administration and analysis.
- Classroom management and behavior strategies.
- Curriculum planning and instructional design.
- Communication with students, parents, and staff.
- Use of standard office equipment and academic software.
- Problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Understanding of Tennessee education laws and policies.
Terms of Employment
200 days, certified pay scale based on experience, General Purpose School Budget line: 71100‑116.
Evaluation
Teacher evaluated by school‑level principal.
Physical Demands
Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Approximately 40% sitting, 20% walking, and 40% standing.
Work Conditions
Normal working environment.
