Job summary

Fuse is seeking a theoretical/computational physicist to build and optimize in-house simulation stacks for pulsed-power fusion devices. You will develop models predicting machine behavior and extract physics from shot data, moving beyond simple curve fitting to actionable, physics-based insights.

The role requires deep expertise in magnetohydrodynamics, radiation transport, and Bayesian inference, with production-grade Python and optional C++/Fortran performance enhancements.

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Applied Math, Plasma Physics, or related field.
• Strong publication record for Master’s candidate considered.
• Deep knowledge of magnetohydrodynamics, radiation transport, or pulsed-power modeling.

Responsibilities

• Build a coupled simulation framework for DPF-related physics.
• Implement radiation source-term models and spectra.
• Develop surrogate and reduced-order models for parameter sweeps.
• Create data pipelines for diagnostic streams and outputs.
• Quantify uncertainty with Bayesian inference and error bars.
• Model electrode aging and capacitor-bank aging to inform operations.
