Job summary

Shultz Steel LLC in California seeks an entry-level to experienced technician to monitor, repair, and maintain forge and heat-treat furnaces, following preventive maintenance procedures and work orders. You will fix faults, assist in establishing PM procedures, and manufacture thermocouples and refractory components per current instructions.

The role requires reading safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals, basic math and geometry, and problem solving.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, repair and maintain forge and heat-treat furnaces per PM procedures.

  • Prepare survey stands and assist contractors with refractory installations.
  • Perform duties with minimal supervision and be prepared for overtime when trained.

Position Summary

Level One: Applies mechanical and electrical theory and related knowledge to monitor, repair, and maintain all functions of the forge and heat treat furnaces by performing the following duties with minimal supervision.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintains equipment by manufacturer's specifications per preventative maintenance procedures and check furnaces and associated equipment following work order procedures.
  • Rectifies faults and problems reported by the production department under the supervisor's instructions.
  • Assists supervisor in establishing procedures for preventive maintenance of furnaces and equipment.
  • Manufactures temperature uniformity survey thermocouples as defined in the most recent work instructions.
  • Manufactures thermocouples for production and laboratory testing as defined in the most recent work instruction.
  • Carrying out necessary repairs to the furnace linings.
  • Manufactures refractory fiber modules to specifications.
  • Manufactures refractory cast shapes and carries out repairs to refractory linings to specifications.
  • Prepares and sets survey stands to defined procedures and by the most recent work instructions.
  • Assists contractors with refractory installations.
  • Will be training to do 2nd shift.
  • Will require overtime when trained.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Experience & Education
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or five years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
