Job summary

Howmet Aerospace in Canton, OH is seeking a Furnace Utility Operator to run and maintain high‑productivity melting furnaces. This role requires reading safety rules, operating instructions, and blueprints, and performing preventive maintenance.

The position features 12‑hour shifts on a 2‑2‑3 cycle and may include days or nights. Qualified candidates have a high school diploma and at least one year of related manufacturing experience, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work overtime as

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain high productivity melting furnaces.
  • Control furnace conditions to meet customer specs and quality standards.
  • Operate tow motors, overhead cranes, welders and hoists as needed.
  • Perform preventive and general maintenance on furnace hardware.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, fix issues and document activities.
  • Use hand tools to condition ingots for the next step and follow SOPs.

Summary: Howmet Structure Systems has an immediate opening for a Furnace Utility Operator located at its Canton, Ingot facilities. This position is responsible for operating and maintaining high productivity melting furnaces.

Hours for this position are 12-hour shifts rotating monthly (month of days, month of nights etc.)

7:00 am - 7:00 pm / 7:00 pm - 7:00 am in a 2-2-3 shift pattern

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities of a furnace operator.

  • Interpret and control furnace conditions to ensure the product is consistent with customer specifications and meets all quality standards.
  • Operate equipment such as tow motors, overhead cranes, welders and hoists.
  • Conduct preventive and general maintenance on furnace hardware.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and system abnormalities and perform required maintenance to fix the issues.
  • Operate hand tools: grinders, saws and drill presses to condition and prepare Ingots for the next process step.
  • Adhere to all standard operating procedures and ensure compliance with all safety and quality processes.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one-year related manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with conducting general maintenance on equipment or experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and blueprints.
  • Experience using a computer to enter and track data.
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic that includes a good attendance record.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondences.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule to include holidays, weekends, and overtime.
  • Ability to work in high, precarious places and small or confined spaces.
  • Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
