Job summary

Vaco by Highspring, a rapidly growing middle-market private equity firm focused on B2B technology, seeks an Assistant Controller. You will be the inaugural internal accounting hire, partnering with the CFO to build core accounting, reporting, and operations for both the fund and management company.

The role combines fund accounting oversight with in-house GP accounting leadership. You will bridge the CFO's needs with external administrators, manage audits and tax support, and shape scalable

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience in PE, VC, or alternative investment management.
• Demonstrated command of fund and management company accounting practices.
• Experience monitoring and evaluating work from third-party fund administrators.
• Working knowledge of partnership taxation and K-1 processing.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary link between CFO and external fund administrator for accounting and reporting.
• Review capital calls, distributions, waterfall allocations, and quarterly financials.
• Oversee LPAs to ensure proper fee structures and carry allocations.
• Support investment-level accounting across SPVs and co-invest vehicles.
• Coordinate year-end audits and quarterly valuation workflows with investment leads.
• Lead day-to-day GL operations for the management company and GP entities.
• Transition management company accounting from 3rd-party to in-house.
• Oversee cash management, reconciliations, and monthly balance sheets.
• Design and refine accounting workflows and internal controls as the platform scales.
• Coordinate with auditors and tax advisors for compliance and tax returns.
