Oliver James have recently partnered with a highly successful global alternative asset manager who possess $600b AUM as they seek to hire a Fund Controller to join their rapidly growing Private Markets and Insurance-Linked Strategies platform. The role, based in New York, will see the Fund Controller take responsibility for a broad range of accounting, financial reporting and operational activities across the ILS fund platform, including NAV and close processes, performance estimates, allocations, waterfalls, investor reporting, cash management, expense forecasting, credit facilities, management and performance fees, portfolio analysis, audits, tax reporting and investor queries.
Responsibilities:
- Take responsibility for the financial reporting process, including monthly performance estimates, close packages, NAVs, allocations, waterfalls and fund returns.
- Partner with the Fund Administrator on the preparation of investor reporting, including monthly investor statements, annual audits and due diligence requests.
- Support cash management forecasts and budgeting to establish capital available for investment.
- Maintain expense registers and ledgers to support expense budgeting, attribution and forecasting.
- Oversee and monitor fund credit facilities, ensuring compliance with relevant agreements and maintaining a strong understanding of the underlying portfolio assets.
- Perform detailed analysis across large asset portfolios, including data reconciliations and calculations of portfolio compliance tests, portfolio quality and concentration ratios.
- Review management fee and performance fee calculations.
- Respond to investor queries relating to fund performance, NAVs, taxes and other fund-related matters.
- Support external audit and tax professionals through year-end audit and tax reporting processes.
- Assist with SEC and other regulatory compliance requirements.
- Support senior management, portfolio managers and Investor Relations with ad-hoc projects and requests as required.
Requirements:
- 8-12 years of accounting and/or finance experience.
- CPA qualification and Big 4 public accounting is a MUST.
- Strong understanding of accounting, fund accounting and financial reporting.
- Experience within asset management, private markets, fund accounting or broader financial services is highly desirable.
- Experience with credit-related products, including loan settlements and trade reconciliations, would be advantageous.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience designing and implementing new policies and procedures.
- Experience with insurance-linked strategies is preferred.
