Position Summary:
As the Hedge Fund Controller, you will be the first in-house fund accounting professional, responsible for designing, building, and leading all internal accounting and reporting processes. This pivotal role works closely with the CFO and partners, offering significant exposure to influential leaders and exciting opportunities for growth as the fund expands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the transition of fund accounting and reporting processes from the external administrator to in-house systems and procedures.
- Oversee the full cycle of accounting operations for the fund(s), including month-end and year-end close, management, and performance reporting.
- Own NAV calculations, P&L attribution, valuation of portfolio investments (public and private), management fees, incentive allocations, and investor allocations.
- Coordinate and review fund audits and financial statement preparation, serving as the primary liaison with auditors, fund administrators (during transition), and key service providers.
- Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and operational best practices.
- Partner with investor relations, operations, and compliance teams to support investor reporting, regulatory filings, and due diligence requests.
- Implement and optimize accounting systems and technology to support scalable growth.
- Provide insight and analysis to senior leadership and contribute to strategic business initiatives.
- Support fund launches, new strategies, and complex transactions as the business evolves.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA, CA, or equivalent strongly preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in hedge fund accounting, either with a hedge fund manager, fund administrator, or relevant public accounting firm.
- Deep understanding of fund structures, NAV/P&L calculations, valuation, fee/incentive accounting, and relevant industry regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in building or transitioning fund operations in-house is a plus.
- Proficient in Excel and fund accounting systems (e.g., Investran, Advent Geneva, Eze, etc.).
- Excellent project management skills and the ability to operate independently in a high-ownership role.
- Superior communication and relationship-building skills, with a team-oriented and hands-on approach.
