This role is designed for a technical professional who thrives in a fast-paced financial environment and is looking to build a career in private equity, venture capital, or hedge fund accounting.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of our investment vehicles, ensuring that Net Asset Value (NAV) calculations, investor reporting, and financial statements are delivered with total precision. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to complex investment structures while working in a collaborative, professional environment in one of the Midwest’s key financial hubs.

Core Responsibilities

1\. Fund Accounting & NAV Production

  • Daily Operations: Perform daily accounting functions for assigned funds, including recording investment transactions, reconciling bank accounts, and tracking income and expenses.

  • NAV Calculation: Assist in the production of monthly and quarterly Net Asset Values (NAV), ensuring all portfolio valuations and fee accruals are accurate.

  • General Ledger: Maintain the general ledger for multiple fund entities, performing complex reconciliations and ensuring all entries adhere to GAAP.

2\. Investor Services & Distributions

  • Capital Tracking: Process capital calls and distribution notices, ensuring investor records are updated and funds are moved accurately across accounts.

  • Waterfall Analysis: Support the calculation of distribution waterfalls and carried interest in accordance with fund legal documents.

  • Inquiry Management: Assist in responding to investor inquiries regarding statements, tax documentation, and fund performance.

3\. Audit & Tax Support

  • Audit Preparation: Work closely with the Senior Fund Accountant and Associate Director to prepare workpapers and documentation for annual fund audits.

  • Tax Coordination: Assist in the gathering of data for the preparation of Schedule K-1s and annual tax filings.

  • Compliance: Ensure all accounting activities remain compliant with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.

4\. Systems & Process Improvement

  • Data Integrity: Maintain accurate data within our fund accounting software and internal reporting tools.

  • Efficiency Gains: Identify opportunities to streamline manual workflows through automation or improved use of Excel and accounting platforms.

The Ideal Profile

  • Professional Experience: 1–3 years of accounting experience. Previous exposure to fund accounting, audit, or financial services is preferred but not required for high-potential candidates.

  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of basic accounting principles (Debits/Credits, Financial Statements).

    • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables).

    • Exposure to fund accounting software (e.g., Investran, Allvue, or MRI) is a plus.
