Job summary

HRB in Charlottesville, VA seeks a Fund Accountant to join its finance team. This role owns key accounting activities supporting investment vehicles across the full lifecycle of fund accounting, valuations, and investor activity.

The ideal candidate has 1–3+ years of accounting experience, a degree in Accounting/Finance, and interest in automation and emerging tools to improve processes. CPA or progress toward CPA is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Fund Accounting & Financial Close: support monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes for investment vehicles.
• Prepare, review, and post investment transactions.
• Perform account and investment reconciliations and research discrepancies.
• Review investment values and investigate anomalies or variances.
• Coordinate and process capital activity, including calls and distributions.
• Maintain accounting workpapers, documentation, and supporting records.
• Assist with financial reporting, audits, and other accounting requirements.
• Support cash management and treasury activities as needed.
• Investment Operations: work with third-party providers to research and resolve issues.
• Communicate with investment managers to obtain information for closing processes.
• Ensure investment activity is correctly reflected in records and systems.
• Process Improvement: identify opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency.
• Leverage technology and automation to enhance accounting processes.
• Participate in system enhancements and finance initiatives.

This individual will take ownership of key accounting and operational activities supporting investment vehicles, with exposure to the full lifecycle of fund accounting, investment activity, valuations, financial reporting, and investor capital activity.

What You’ll Do

Fund Accounting & Financial Close

• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes for investment vehicles
• Prepare, review, and post investment transactions
• Perform account and investment reconciliations and research discrepancies
• Review investment values and investigate unusual activity or variances

• Work closely with third-party service providers to research and resolve accounting and reconciliation matters
• Communicate with investment managers and other external partners to obtain information and support accounting and closing processes
• Help ensure investment activity is accurately reflected within accounting records and systems

Process Improvement & Technology

• Develop a strong understanding of existing accounting processes, systems, and controls
• Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and recurring workflows
• Leverage technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve accounting processes and analysis
• Participate in system enhancements and other finance and accounting initiatives

Qualifications

• 1-3+ years of professional accounting experience, preferably within public accounting, investment management, fund accounting, financial services, or another complex accounting environment
• Investment fund accounting or investment operations experience is strongly preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CPA or progress toward CPA designation is a plus
• Solid understanding of accounting principles
• Experience researching and resolving transactions, reconciliations, and accounting discrepancies
• Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with accounting systems and complex financial data
• Experience with double-entry accounting systems preferred
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
