Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to join a Product Development team applying ISO 26262 principles from concept through production. You will collaborate with global teams to develop safety analyses, requirements, and supporting documents, leveraging MBSE and SysML for clarity and traceability.

The role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration with software, controls, electrical, and hardware experts to define hazards and safety requirements for vehicle systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in a relevant engineering field or computer science.
  • 1+ years in embedded vehicle systems or related domains.
  • 2+ years of experience with vehicle motion controls.
  • 3+ years reading and authoring technical requirements for system-level analysis.
  • 4+ years applying systems engineering concepts in cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional and global Product Development teams to perform ISO 26262 analysis for new vehicle technologies.
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver Functional Safety work products and documentation for the assigned scope.
  • Work with subject matter experts to identify hazards and define safety requirements.
  • Apply Ford Functional Safety processes, methods, and tools to ensure traceability of safety activities.
  • Use MBSE and SysML to improve clarity and integration of analyses.
  • Support common safety ratings, tools, and training across Ford engineering teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement to simplify processes while maintaining safety rigor.
  • Communicate technical conclusions through written docs, reviews, and cross-functional discussions.
