Job summary

Waymo is seeking a Hybrid Functional Safety Engineer to advance safety across its base vehicle platforms and the ADS. You will work with Systems and HW teams to define safety interfaces, perform HARA, FMEA, and FTA analyses, and ensure compliance with ISO 26262 while guiding regulatory certification efforts.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams is key. You have 4+ years in automotive safety, experience with OEM/Tier1 product development, and familiarity with DIA, HIL testing, and SOTIF

Qualifications

• BS or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or equivalent
• 4+ years automotive experience with OEM or Tier 1 in product development/launch
• 4+ years functional safety engineering in safety-critical systems (ISO 26262)
• Experience performing safety analyses (HARA, FMEA, FTA) for complex E/E or automotive systems
• Safety requirements elicitation, definition, and tracing
• Solid understanding of vehicle systems architecture, V-model, and HW/SW interfaces

Responsibilities

• Support and execute functional safety analyses for base vehicle programs to identify hazards and safety goals
• Support supplier and OEM safety management activities, including DIA compliance and audits
• Collaborate with Systems and HW Engineering to define safety interfaces between ADS and base vehicle platform
• Improve safety engineering processes, guidelines, manuals, and templates
• Guide regulatory teams through vehicle platform certification efforts
• Participate in cross-functional design reviews as safety representative
