Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to join a Product Development team responsible for applying ISO 26262 principles through concept to production. You will work with global engineering teams to develop clear, scalable safety work products for safe, robust vehicle systems.

Responsibilities include performing ISO 26262 analysis, developing safety concepts and requirements, and ensuring traceability using MBSE and SysML.

Qualifications

• Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
• 2+ years of experience engineering software-enabled, electrical/electronic, mechanical, systems, controls, or embedded vehicle systems.
• 2+ years experience with vehicle motion controls (powertrain, steering, brakes).
• 3+ years of experience reading, interpreting, and authoring technical requirements and engineering documentation.
• 4+ years applying systems engineering concepts in a cross-functional environment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional and global Product Development teams to perform ISO 26262 Functional Safety analysis.
• Develop, maintain, and deliver safety analyses, ratings, concepts, requirements, and documentation.
• Identify hazards, define safety requirements, and support safe system design decisions.
• Apply Ford Functional Safety processes, methods, tools, and training for consistency and traceability.
• Use MBSE and SysML to improve clarity, reuse, and integration of analyses.
• Support common safety ratings, tools, and training across Ford engineering teams.
• Contribute to continuous improvement to simplify processes and speed delivery without compromising safety.
• Communicate technical conclusions clearly through documentation, reviews, and cross-functional discussions.
