Job summary

Stellantis NV in Auburn, Alabama seeks an Electrified Powertrain Functional Safety Control Algorithm Design Engineer to develop monitoring algorithms for safety-critical functions in battery electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The ideal candidate will work within a team of powertrain controls, calibrations and integration engineers, applying ISO26262 standards and advanced control methods to meet vehicle requirements for fuel economy, emissions, drivability and diagnostics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with MATLAB/SIMULINK for development and testing.
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, development, testing, calibration and validation.
  • Knowledge of system identification and observer design methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop function monitoring algorithms for safety-critical functions of electrified powertrains.
  • Collaborate with powertrain controls, calibrations and integration engineers.
  • Support testing, calibration and validation activities for ECU/controls development.

Job description

The Electrified Powertrain Functional Safety Control Algorithm Design Engineer will work within a team of powertrain controls, calibrations and integration engineers to develop monitoring algorithms per E-Gas Monitoring Concept for Gasoline and Diesel Engine Control Units as applicable to Battery Electric and Plug‑in Hybrid Electric vehicle controls architecture and ISO26262 for current and next‑generation electrified powertrains for Stellantis electrified vehicles. The overall goal for the team is to develop a complete electrified powertrain that meets the vehicle functional requirements for fuel economy, emissions, drivability, and diagnostics.

The ideal candidate, who must be a strong team player and willing to work in a fast‑paced environment, will be involved in developing function monitoring algorithms for safety critical functions of Battery Electric and Plug‑in Hybrid Electric vehicles.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 4 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in Classical and Modern Control disciplines with vehicle applications
  • Experience with mathematical model of dynamic systems (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic)
  • Knowledge of System Identification and Observer Design methodologies
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, development, testing, calibration and/or validation
  • Experience with model‑based development tools such as MATLAB/SIMULINK
  • Demonstrated technical problem solving
  • Strong overall knowledge of vehicle and powertrain functions
  • Outstanding interpersonal and problem‑solving skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Embedded software experience
  • Understanding of E‑Gas Three Level Monitoring Concept
  • Knowledge of powertrain control system architecture/best practices.
  • Knowledge of ISO26262 international standard for electrical and/or electronic systems in production automobiles
  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS-INCA
