Job summary

Duke Neurosurgery at Duke Health seeks a Functional Neurosurgeon to join our Durham team, balancing clinical duties (80%) with protected research (20%). The role advances neuromodulation in stroke recovery, pain management, and spinal cord injuries, with opportunities to lead trials and build an independent research portfolio.

You will mentor trainees, collaborate across neurology and engineering, and participate in innovative, IDE/IRB protocols while contributing to Duke's national leadership

Qualifications

• MD or MD-PhD with completion of an ACGME-accredited neurosurgery residency.
• Fellowship training in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, or a closely related subspecialty.
• Board-certified or board-eligible in Neurosurgery, and eligible for North Carolina medical licensure.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex functional neurosurgical procedures with a primary focus on deep brain stimulation for movement disorders and MR-guided focused ultrasound.
• Lead and develop an independent or collaborative research program within 20% protected effort.
• Serve as investigator or site principal investigator across division's neuromodulation clinical trials portfolio.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive, patient-centered treatment plans.
• Mentor and educate residents, fellows, and medical students.
