Job summary

Supabase is hiring experienced engineers to advance the Edge Runtime, a Rust-based host running Deno isolates, with per-request memory and CPU controls, at a global scale. You’ll implement observability, monitor latency, and push improvements through real-world telemetry.

You’ll collaborate with Deno and other teams, participate in on-call rotations, and help extend features like scheduled functions, WebSockets, and routing while tying into Auth, Postgres, and Realtime across the stack.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of backend or systems engineering experience.
• Strong fluency in Rust and TypeScript.
• Experience with V8 Isolates, Deno and the JavaScript runtimes in general.
• Experience operating infrastructure at scale – Kubernetes, AWS, Cloudflare Workers, Redis, or comparable systems.
• A strong vision for how compute and data can be pushed to the edge.
• Bonus: experience building developer-facing CLIs or front-end tooling that sits on top of an infrastructure product.

Responsibilities

• Evolving Supabase Edge Runtime – a Rust-based host that runs the Deno isolate and manages main/runtime split.
• Implementing monitoring, alerting, and OpenTelemetry tracing across the runtime to drive latency and reliability improvements.
• Collaborating with Deno and open-source teams and contributing upstream.
• Participating in on-call rotation to keep Edge Functions healthy in production.
• Managing and improving features like scheduled functions, background tasks, WebSockets, and routing.
• Integrating functions with Auth, Postgres, Storage, and Realtime.
