Job summary

Forage is seeking a Full-Stack Software Engineer to build end-to-end products across frontend experiences, backend services, APIs, data models, and cloud infrastructure. You will own features from concept to production, collaborating with Product, Design, and Solutions Engineering to deliver reliable, scalable customer experiences built on Python, Django, TypeScript, React, React Native, and AWS.

The Role

We're looking for Full-Stack Software Engineers who are passionate about building high-quality products that solve meaningful customer problems.

As a Full-Stack Software Engineer at Forage, you'll build products end-to-end—across our frontend experiences, backend services, APIs, data models, and cloud infrastructure. You'll have the opportunity to own features from initial concept through production, working across the stack to create intuitive customer experiences backed by reliable, scalable systems.

You'll partner closely with Product, Design, Solutions Engineering, and fellow engineers to shape requirements, make technical decisions, implement and test solutions, deploy to production, and iterate based on customer needs and feedback.

Our stack includes Python, Django, TypeScript, React, React Native, and AWS, and we're looking for engineers who are comfortable moving between frontend and backend development rather than operating exclusively in one area.

We hire engineers across multiple levels, from mid-level individual contributors to senior and staff-level technical leaders. The exact level will be determined through our interview process based on experience, technical expertise, scope of ownership, and demonstrated impact.

What You'll Do

Design, build, test, and ship full-stack product features across frontend applications and backend systems.

Build intuitive, responsive user experiences using React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.

• Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, and business logic using Python and Django.
• Design APIs and data models that support scalable, reliable product experiences.
• Own features throughout the entire software development lifecycle—from technical design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
• Collaborate with Product and Design to translate customer and business needs into thoughtful technical solutions.
• Work with Solutions Engineering and other customer-facing teams to understand real-world use cases and solve complex integration challenges.
• Contribute to system architecture and technical decisions as Forage's products and platform scale.
• Write well-tested, maintainable code and participate in code reviews and engineering best practices.
• Debug and resolve issues across the stack, including frontend applications, backend services, APIs, infrastructure, and third-party integrations.
• Help improve our engineering practices, developer experience, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and overall system reliability.

What We're Looking For

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

4+ years of professional software engineering experience.

Experience building and shipping production full-stack applications, with meaningful contributions to both frontend and backend systems.

Strong proficiency in at least one modern backend language or framework and one modern frontend framework.

Experience designing and consuming REST APIs and working with relational data models.

Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including system design, testing, debugging, performance, and maintainability.

• Experience working with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS.
• Ability to independently take a feature or technical problem from definition through production.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment where engineers collaborate across traditional frontend and backend boundaries.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, design, and business teams.
• Passion for building reliable products and exceptional customer experiences.

Preferred Technical Experience

Experience with some or all of the following:

• Backend: Python, Django, REST APIs
• Frontend: TypeScript, React, HTML/CSS
• Mobile: React Native
• Infrastructure: AWS, cloud-native architectures
• Systems: Distributed systems, asynchronous processing, scalable APIs
• Data: Relational databases, data modeling, query optimization
• Engineering Practices: Automated testing, CI/CD, observability, monitoring, and modern development workflows

You don't need experience with every technology in our stack. We're most interested in engineers with strong fundamentals who are excited to work across the stack, learn quickly, and own meaningful products from end to end.

Our Offer

This role is Hybrid in New York or San Francisco, we will consider remote within North America on a case-by-case basis. We define hybrid as 2-3 days in office.

Your base salary would fall within the bands below. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of your offer is not included in these numbers and represents a significant part of your total compensation.

• Expected salary range:$145k-$195k USD base salary, plus equity and benefits. Depending on Experience
