Job summary

Scion Staffing is seeking a Senior Full-Stack Architect for a growing interactive entertainment technology partner in Hutto, TX. This highly hands-on leadership role shapes the architecture of a broad technology platform while continuing to write and review production code.

You will work across Java enterprise services, modern front-end apps, databases, and hardware integrations, guiding a small development team in a fast-moving startup with evolving regulations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of professional software development experience, including responsibility for architecture, system design, or technical leadership.
• Experience architecting scalable, distributed systems supporting multiple clients/environments.
• Advanced hands-on experience with Java, Spring/Spring Boot, and JPA/Spring Data in enterprise/complex apps.
• Full-stack with a modern JS framework (Vue.js/React/Angular); Vue.js + Vuetify valuable.
• Strong DB/data-modeling with MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQL Server; query/optimization focus.
• Proven ability to review code, lead/mentee 2-3 developers, provide technical direction, stay hands-on in startup.
• Must have worked in a startup environment.
• Experience with APIs, messaging, software-to-hardware integrations, Kotlin, C#, Unity, Grafana, Python, or data analytics is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and improve scalable full-stack apps using Java, Spring/Spring Boot, JPA/Spring Data, a modern JS framework, and relational DBs.
• Learn platform architecture and guide decisions for performance, reliability, maintainability, and growth.
• Own features through full development lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support.
• Develop and support integrations among back-end services, UI apps, messaging, external systems, and hardware endpoints.
• Establish engineering practices by code reviews, quality checks, and ensuring code is understood and production-ready.
• Provide technical direction and hands-on mentorship to junior/mid developers in a small, multidisciplinary team.

Senior Full-Stack Architect Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Senior Full-Stack Architect for our partner, a growing interactive entertainment technology company that develops and supports custom, data-driven applications connecting software, digital experiences, and physical systems. This is a either a contract-to-hire or direct hire, onsite position (five days / week) in Hutto, TX .

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This hands-on leadership role will help shape the architecture of a broad technology platform while continuing to write and review production code. The Senior Full-Stack Architect will work across Java enterprise services, modern front-end applications, relational databases, system integrations, and connected devices while guiding a small development team. The ideal candidate enjoys startup environments, takes ownership from concept through production, and is motivated by the opportunity to influence technology decisions and make a visible impact as the organization grows.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, build, and improve scalable full-stack applications using Java, Spring/Spring Boot, JPA/Spring Data, a modern JavaScript framework, and relational databases.
• Learn the existing platform architecture and guide technical decisions that improve performance, reliability, maintainability, and future growth.
• Own features throughout the full development lifecycle, including requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and ongoing support.
• Develop and support integrations among back-end services, user-facing applications, messaging capabilities, external systems, and hardware-connected endpoints.
• Establish strong engineering practices by reviewing code, validating quality, and ensuring all code—including AI-assisted code—is thoroughly understood, tested, and production-ready.
• Provide technical direction and hands-on mentorship to junior and mid-level developers while collaborating closely with a small, multidisciplinary team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 8 years of professional software development experience , including demonstrated responsibility for application architecture, system design, or technical leadership in a production environment.
• Demonstrated experience architecting scalable, distributed systems that support multiple client environments, locations, applications, or connected endpoints.
• Advanced, recent hands-on experience with Java, Spring/Spring Boot, and JPA/Spring Data within enterprise or similarly complex applications.
• Full-stack experience with a modern JavaScript framework such as Vue.js, React, Angular, or a comparable technology; Vue.js and Vuetify experience is especially valuable.
• Strong relational database and data-modeling experience with MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or a comparable platform, including query and performance optimization.
• Proven ability to review code, lead and mentor 2-3 developers, provide technical direction, and remain personally involved in hands-on development within a fast-moving startup environment; and candidates must also be comfortable working in an emerging industry with an evolving regulatory landscape.
• Must have previously worked in a start-up type of environment
• Experience with APIs, messaging integrations, software-to-hardware integrations, Kotlin, C#, Unity, Grafana, Python, or data analytics is beneficial but not required.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Compensation range is negotiable between $85-110/hr W2 or $175k-$225k/yr (DOE) plus their bonus structure. The organization prefers a contract-to-hire arrangement but may consider direct hire for an exceptional candidate, and performance-based bonus structure is based on company's goals and achievements.
