Job summary

Animal Hospital of Dauphin County in Harrisburg, PA is seeking a full-time Veterinary Technician to join a AAHA-accredited hospital offering general practice, urgent care, exotics, and referral services. You will assist in surgery, anesthesia, patient monitoring, and diagnostic procedures while supporting a fast-paced medical team.

Prepare patients and equipment, monitor vital signs, and maintain records as part of a collaborative team focused on patient safety and high-quality care.

Qualifications

• Previous veterinary experience, preferably in surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, or patient monitoring.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to anticipate needs in a fast-paced surgical setting.
• A commitment to patient safety, sterile technique, and high-quality medical care.
• The ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with veterinarians and fellow team members.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical suites, equipment, instruments, and patients for scheduled procedures.
• Assist veterinarians during surgical and dental procedures, anticipating needs and supporting efficient workflow.
• Perform surgical patient preparation, including clipping, aseptic preparation, and appropriate positioning.
• Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery within the scope of training and credentials.
• Monitor vital signs and patient status throughout procedures and promptly communicate concerns to the veterinarian.
• Maintain sterile technique and follow established infection-control and patient-safety protocols.
• Clean, organize, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.
• Maintain accurate medical records, anesthesia monitoring sheets, and procedure documentation.
• Collaborate with doctors and the medical team to ensure smooth transitions from preparation through recovery.
• Work closely with veterinarians and other medical team members to support diagnostic procedures and treatment plans.
• Assist with laboratory diagnostics, sample collection, and other in-hospital testing.
• Administer medications and perform treatments as directed by the veterinarian and within the scope of training and credentials.
• Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate changes in patient condition to the medical team.
• Assist with patient restraint, handling, and recovery while prioritizing patient safety and comfort.
• Maintain clean, organized treatment areas and ensure equipment is properly maintained.
• Communicate effectively with doctors, technicians, assistants, and client service representatives to support efficient hospital operations.
• Help provide clients with clear, compassionate updates and education regarding their pets' care.
