Job summary

Journey Middle School in Charlottesville, Virginia is seeking a full-time Teaching Assistant for the 2026-27 school year. The position is 7.25 hours per day, 10 months per year, with benefits eligible.

You will support classroom teachers, assist with instructional activities, supervise students, manage materials, and help with meals, field trips, and clerical tasks. A high school diploma and CPR readiness are required or pursued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Willing to obtain/maintain CPR certification.
• Ability to support classroom instruction and student learning.

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teacher with instructional plans and IEPs as needed.
• Supervise lunch, free time, and non-instructional periods.
• Perform attendance, clerical tasks, and materials management.
• Assist with field trips, library, assemblies, and related activities.
• Assist with toileting, feeding, and positioning of students as directed.
• Support with medical-related duties and mobility assistance.
