Job description

Position Overview

Fremont RE-2 School District is seeking a reliable and flexible Full‑Time Building Substitute to support daily operations and student learning within the elementary school. This position provides coverage across a variety of roles as needed, including classroom instruction, paraprofessional support, and other student supervision or operational duties. The Building Substitute helps ensure continuity of instruction, student safety, and smooth school operations when regular staff members are absent. This position may be assigned grade levels, classrooms, or support roles based on building and district needs and may be reassigned throughout the school year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of responsibilities.

  • Provide classroom instruction in the absence of the regular teacher using lesson plans and instructional materials provided.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment that supports student learning.
  • Follow teacher‑developed lesson plans and provide feedback to the regular teacher regarding classroom activities and student progress.
  • Provide support in paraprofessional roles, including assisting with small groups, monitoring student work, and supporting classroom activities.
  • Assist with student supervision during recess, lunch, hallways, arrival, and dismissal as assigned.
  • Provide coverage for support positions such as instructional aides or other building‑based support roles as needed.
  • Support special education staff and student programming as appropriate under the direction of licensed staff.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communicate relevant information to teachers or administrators as needed.
  • Follow district policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and administrators to maintain a positive school environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the school.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and support students.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Successful completion of required criminal background checks and fingerprinting in accordance with district policy and Colorado law.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior substitute teaching or classroom experience.
  • Experience working with elementary‑aged students.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse learners.
  • Familiarity with classroom technology and instructional tools.
  • Flexible, dependable, and able to adapt to changing assignments.
Work Schedule and Employment Terms
  • Work Schedule: 8.5‑hour workday within the district’s four‑day school week (Monday–Thursday), with occasional Fridays designated for professional development or district needs.
  • Work Location: Elementary school building; assignments may vary daily based on building needs.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Benefits Contribution: The district contributes $6,336 annually toward the employee benefits package, which may include health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Retirement: Participation in the Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association (PERA) as required by law.
  • Life Insurance: District‑provided life insurance coverage.
  • Leave: Leave days provided in accordance with district policy and the applicable employee handbook.
