Job summary

The Salvation Army in Michigan is seeking a Store Associate to process donated goods in the back room or warehouse, while delivering excellent customer service to shoppers and donors and keeping the store clean and organized.

You will sort, tag, price merchandise, assist donors with receipts, help load shipments, keep floors stocked, and work toward daily production goals with a flexible schedule.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or currently pursuing.
• Retail or thrift store experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate in English and follow directions.
• Able to pass pre-employment drug and background checks.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Sort, tag and price merchandise as instructed.
• Moves priced merchandise to floor for display and stocking or to the designated shipping location in the warehouse.
• Assists donors with donations. Complete donation receipts, collect donor information and track donors.
• Load and unload merchandise from trucks and move to correct departments.
• Maintain clean work and storage spaces and keep floor stocked; meet daily production goals; maintain flexible schedule.

Job Objective:

Process donated good in the back room of a store or in the warehouse. Follow all procedures as set out by The Salvation Army in the handling and processing of these goods. Provide excellent customer service to our shoppers and donors. Maintaining a clean and well organized work and shopping experience. Handling each transaction with accuracy.

Essential Functions:

• Sort, tag and price merchandise as instructed.

• Tracks production numbers and reports in the assigned location.

• Assists donors with donations. Complete donation receipts, collect donor information and track donors.


• Power sorting donations into the correct bins.
  
  
  
  • Receives ARC Center Trucks and assists to load, unload and move product to the correct departments.
  
  
  
  


• Maintain clean work and storage spaces.
  
  
  
  • Follows all Salvation Army policies regarding the sale of merchandise.
  
  
  • Assist in keeping the -floor stocked and put new merchandise out as assigned. Work to meet the production goals for the store each day as needed. Must be available for a flexible schedule.

Pay Rate: $14.00-$18.00

Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: High School Diploma or currently pursuing.

Experience: Retail sales production and/or thrift store experience is highly preferred. Has experience following

and giving direction.

Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership and field personnel.


• Basic computer skills including but not limited to the use of payroll program and the ability to learn other programs or systems that are adopted by the TSA ARC.


• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


• Ability to use basic math skills.


• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background test.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Oversees production team members assigned by management. This may include paid staff, volunteers and beneficiaries.
