Job summary

Hy-Vee in Urbandale, IA is seeking a dedicated Custodian to keep our store clean, safe, and welcoming for customers and employees. You will play a key role in maintaining the appearance of both indoor and exterior areas while supporting store operations.

The role requires the ability to greet customers, perform routine cleaning tasks, monitor and report maintenance needs, and work well as part of a team. We provide training and expect punctuality and reliability.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Greet customers with a friendly smile and assist as needed.
• Maintain total store cleanliness inside and out, including sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing.
• Replace or maintain ceiling lights; replenish towels, paper, and soap dispensers.
• Monitor plumbing, fixtures, coolers, and freezers; report issues to supervisors.
• Empty trash and manage cardboard recycling during shifts.
• Unclog drains and perform routine equipment maintenance as required.
• Clean cooling systems and filters; ensure store HVAC cleanliness.
• Order cleaning supplies and audit invoices for accuracy where applicable.
• Conduct quarterly inventory on cleaning products and usage for costs.
• Assist in other store areas and participate in special projects as assigned.
• Adhere to Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines; be on time for shifts.
