Job summary

St. Luke's University Health Network is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to evaluate and treat patients with voice, fluency, speech, language and swallowing disorders. The role emphasizes documentation, collaboration with the rehab team and ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities include patient care, billing, interdepartmental communication and active participation in quality improvement activities, with licensure and certifications as required.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral or Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • BLS certification required upon hire or within 30 days of hire.
  • Current SLP license in Pennsylvania or New Jersey based on work location.
  • CCC-SLP certification is required.
  • CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and treat individuals with voice, fluency, speech, language and swallowing disorders.
  • Document evaluation and treatment progress per professional guidelines.
  • Bill and code for equipment and services rendered.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, physicians and referrals.
  • Maintain clinical skills through continuing education and peer knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in care conferences, departmental programs and meetings.
  • Contribute to quality improvement activities within the department and hospital.
  • Demonstrate productivity by patient volume in speech pathology services.

The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates and treats individuals with voice, fluency, speech, language and swallowing disorders.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides quality care in the evaluation and treatment of voice, fluency, speech, language, and swallowing impaired patients.
  • Documents evaluation and treatment efforts as well as patient response to treatment in accordance with established professional guidelines.
  • Bills patient’s accounts for equipment and services rendered.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, staff members, physicians and referral sources.
  • Maintains and upgrades clinical skills by participating in continuing education activities, shares knowledge with peers.
  • Participates in patient care conferences (eg. Rehab team) as needed, departmental programs (eg. Better Speech and Hearing Month activities) , in-services, and departmental and section meetings.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities in the Department and the hospital.
  • Demonstrates productivity in terms of volume of patients seen for speech pathology services.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
  • Sitting for up to 5 hours per day, 2 hours at a time.
  • Standing and walking up to 6 hours per day, 1 hour at a time.
  • Twisting, bending, kneeling, reaching, forward frequently to interact with patients.
  • Lifting adults, infants and children up to 50 lbs. frequently to transfer from chair to floor and back, and frequently carrying from one place to another.
  • Adequate strength and mobility to calm patients with disruptive behaviors (eg. Confused, combative adults, children with temper tantrums who lift tables and chairs, throw toys, etc.)
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate equipment controls.
  • Good vision and hearing to observe subtle verbal and nonverbal behaviors and to read Video Barium Swallow Studies.
EDUCATION
  • Doctoral degree or Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or equivalent, required upon hire or to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Current Speech Language Pathologist license in the State of Pennsylvania or New Jersey, based on work location, is required.
  • The Speech Language Pathologist shall work within the practice guidelines as defined by Pennsylvania or New Jersey state law (based on work location).
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) is required.
  • Pennsylvania license in Speech Pathology.
  • Current CPR certification.
MINIMUM - MAXIMUM COMPENSATION PAY RANGE

$77,850.00 - $124,560.00

St Luke’s University Health Network is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this job in certain states and cities within the United States. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate's relevant skills, experience, and education. We will meet minimum wage or minimum of the pay range (whichever is higher) based on state requirements.
