Job summary

Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 seeks a Full-time Signing Personal Care Assistant (1:1 Paraeducator) to support a sensory-impaired student. 7:00 hours per day, Monday to Friday, 185 days per year, site location Manheim Central Baron Elementary.

The role includes instructional, behavioral and personal care support under supervision of the classroom teacher and program supervisor. 201-? positions may end with student placement decisions.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalency.
• Must meet one of four PDE qualifications for paraeducators.
• Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducators (PDE) or willing to complete within 6 months.
• Two years postsecondary study with 48 credits (transcript required).
• Associate degree or higher.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional, behavioral and personal care support per IEP.
• Work under the direction of the classroom teacher and supervisor.
• 1:1 paraeducator Assignments and support for school-age students.
• Position valid for the school year and may terminate based on student placement.

The Signing Personal Care Assistant / 1:1 Paraeducator (School Age)is assigned to provide instructional, behavioralandpersonalcaresupportasoutlinedinthestudent'sIndividualEducationPlan.Theassistantwillbe directed by the classroom teacher and is under the general supervision of the designated program supervisor.

TheassignmentoftheSigningPersonalCareAssistant/1:1Paraeducatorisforaschoolyearandcouldterminate at any time, based on student placement or needs.

KNOWLEDGE&SKILLREQUIREMENTS:

• EducationRequired: HighSchoolDiplomaorHighSchoolEquivalency
• EffectiveJuly1,2010–Alsomustmeetoneofthefollowingfourqualifications:
• Have completed the Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducators through the PA Department of Education (or be willing to complete within 6 months of employment). A copy of the credential must be submitted within 30 days of hire or when received from PDE.
• Have completed at least 2 years of postsecondary study with a minimum of 48 credithours. Copy of transcript required within 30 days of employment.
• Possess an associated degree or higher. Copy of degree or transcripts required within 30 days of employment.
• Meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through an approved form of assessment within 6 months of employment

AND

As required by the PA Department of Education: Each school year, provide evidence of 20 hours of staff development activities related to position. Pro-ration will apply based on the date of hire within the school year.

SkillsRequired: Proficient in Intermediate Level Sign Language.

Verbal communication skills and the ability to follow directions.

The ability to physically restrain students in emotional stress by using the Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI),SafeCrisisManagement(SCM)orQualityBehaviorSupports(QBS)method,dependingonprogramneed, for which training will be provided. Mustbeabletocontextuallyrun/sprintafter/toanelopingchildandbeabletohelpalearneroffthefloorshould they drop to the floor under their own power.
