JOB TITLE: HEAD BAKER

SALARY: BASED ON EXPERIENCE

REPORTS TO: MANAGEMENT/OWNERSHIP

POSITION TYPE: FULL-TIME (40 HOURS A WEEK AVERAGE)

LOCATION: CHICAGO, IL

DIRECTS: SHIFT LEAD BAKERS, BAKERS

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated person to oversee the daily operations of our bakery. The ideal candidate will have a passion for baking, exceptional leadership skills, and a strong commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and customer service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Operations Management: Oversee all bakery operations, including production, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  2. Staff Supervision: Train and manage bakery staff. Delegate tasks and ensure staff adhere to established protocols and standards.
  3. Quality Control: Maintain high standards for product quality and consistency. Conduct regular quality checks to ensure all products meet specifications.
  4. Customer Service: Ensure exceptional customer service by addressing customer inquiries and complaints promptly and professionally.
  5. Financial Management: Monitor budgets, control costs, and manage invoicing.
  6. Inventory Management: Communicate with shift lead bakers to manage inventory levels, place orders for supplies, and oversee stock rotation to minimize waste.
  7. Menu Development: Collaborate with the team to develop new products and menu items. Stay informed about industry trends and incorporate innovative ideas.
  8. Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure all bakery activities comply with health, safety, and sanitation standards. Conduct regular inspections and staff training.
  9. Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and proper functioning of all bakery equipment. Arrange for repairs and servicing as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a bakery or food service management role.
  2. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. A degree in culinary arts or a related field is a plus.
  3. Skills: Strong leadership, organizational, and multitasking skills. Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  4. Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of baking techniques, food safety regulations, and inventory management.
  5. Certifications: Food Handlers License (ServSafe), Food Safety Manager (ServSafe) certification is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to stand for extended periods.
  2. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  3. Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Flexible schedule, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
  2. Work in a bakery environment with exposure to heat, cold, and various kitchen equipment.
