Job summary

ADAPT Community Network seeks an Adapted Physical Education teacher to deliver specialized instruction for pre-school students with developmental disabilities. The role follows a Monday–Friday, 8am–3pm schedule and focuses on motor development, fitness, and functional mobility aligned with IEP goals.

The teacher will plan individualized and group programs, assess abilities, adapt materials, and collaborate with families, teachers, and specialists to ensure inclusive participation and progress

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
• New York State certification in Physical Education required; certification in Adapted Physical Education preferred.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, and implements instructional activities tailored to meet each student’s individual educational goals and developmental needs.
• Assess student physical abilities, motor skills, and functional mobility.
• Prepare and deliver lesson plans that promote physical development and participation.
• Develops, implements, and evaluates short- and long-term educational objectives and progress for assigned students.
• Designs and adapts lesson plans, instructional materials, classroom layout, and environmental modifications to promote accessibility and engagement.
• Monitors, records, and evaluates student attendance, participation, and progress; prepares periodic progress and annual reports.
