Position Overview

The successful candidate will be an individual who is committed to our district's values by providing exceptional customer service to students, staff and guests who dine in our cafeterias, following food safety and sanitation regulations, working well with others on a team, providing effective leadership, having a positive attitude, being dependable, and being an ongoing learner.

Position Description

Title: Full Time Float – This is routine work performed under the direct supervision of the high school manager or other designated individual. The position requires floating at an elementary, middle and high school. Performance is evaluated on an ongoing basis.

Locations: Centerview Elementary, Northpoint Elementary, Woodcrest Spanish Immersion Elementary, Park Terrace Elementary, Westwo... School, Spring Lake Park High School.

Hours: 6.0 days/day.

Duty Days: 181 total days (168 student contact days, 10 paid holidays, 3 prep days) according to the school year calendar.

Group: Nutrition Services.

Position Associate Rate of Pay $21.55/hr. Additional $1.00/hr differential if employee holds Certified Food Manager certification. Longevity pay $1.50‑$2.75/hr.

Start Date: TBD.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Prepare, set up and serve high‑quality nutritious meals to students and adults at all schools.
  • Perform daily production tasks such as cooking, steaming, baking and other techniques.
  • Provide direction and training to food service staff in assigned building.
  • Monitor revenues and maintain required system accountability through daily record‑keeping and reports.
  • Implement new products and/or procedures to encourage and increase participation.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative, productive workplace relationships to create a pleasant environment.
  • Ensure proper sanitation and safety standards and regulations are followed (HACCP).
  • Communicate and resolve conflicts in a timely and professional manner.
  • Move/lift up to 50 lbs (e.g., milk crates, frozen food boxes, canned foods).
  • Use computer software to manage student meal accounts.
  • Attend professional learning development.
  • Perform all duties safely to avoid injury.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma.
  • Three years experience in congregate food service (preferred).
  • Current Food Manager's certificate or obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Working knowledge of food preparation, kitchen cleaning, serving and storage techniques.
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention techniques relevant to food preparation and kitchen facilities.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations including HACCP.
  • Highly effective time‑management skills.
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes.
  • Ability to follow the Nutrition Services Employee Handbook.
  • Ability to pass a pre‑work physical.
  • Ability to remain calm under trying circumstances and handle frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to read and understand operating manuals for equipment used.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and ensure staff follows direction.
  • Knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Program regulations.
  • Computer skills including email, order entry, forms and spreadsheets (preferred).
  • Must complete and pass a background check and a pre‑work physical.
  • Valid Minnesota driver's license.
Equipment Used

Personal computer, calculator, large and small kitchen equipment such as combi oven, rotating oven, steam kettle, sharp cutting tools, dishwasher, rolling racks and utility cart.

Working Conditions
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Continuous standing, walking, pushing/pulling, frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
