Job summary

Lancaster-Lebanon IU13 is seeking a dedicated Personal Care Assistant / 1:1 Paraeducator to support a student with instructional, behavioral and personal care needs in a classroom setting. The role follows the student’s IEP, with supervision by the classroom teacher and program supervisor.

It is a full-time, school-year position with a workday of 6.75 hours, Monday–Friday, 185 days annually, at $20.00 per hour; qualifications include a high school diploma, PA credential or credits, and ongoing

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• PA Paraeducator Credential of Competency Certificate (or willingness to complete the FREE online program within 6 months of hire date), or
• Completed a minimum of 48 post-secondary credits in ANY content area, or
• Completed associate degree or higher in ANY content area, and
• Willing to complete 20 hours of staff development each school year AND As required by the PA Department of Education: Each school year, provide evidence of 20 hours of staff development activities related to position. Pro-ration will apply based on date of hire within the school year.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional, behavioral and personal care support as outlined in the student's IEP.
• Work under the classroom teacher and general supervision of the program supervisor.
• Position is for a school year and may terminate based on student placement or needs.
• Assist in lifting students and emergencies; physical safety training will be provided.

Purpose Of Position

The Personal Care Assistant / 1:1 Paraeducator is assigned to provide instructional, behavioral and personal care support as outlined in the student's Individual Education Plan. The assistant will be directed by the classroom teacher and is under the general supervision of the designated program supervisor.

The assignment of the Personal Care Assistant/1:1 Paraeducator is for a school year and could terminate at any time, based on student placement or needs.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements

High School Diploma or GED,

AND

• Hold a PA Paraeducator Credential of Competency Certificate (or be willing to complete the FREE online program within 6 months of hire date), or

Essential Physical Requirement

The strength and ability to lift and/or assist in lifting students ranging in age from pre-school to twenty-one and any assistive appliances, for example: wheelchair. The ability to physically restrain students in emotional stress by using the Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI), Safe Crisis Management (SCM) or Quality Behavior Supports (QBS) method, depending on program need, for which training will be provided.
