Job description

Schedule and Salary

Full‑time. 7.5 hours/day (7:30 am – 3:00 pm) Monday‑Friday, 185 days/year.

Minimum hourly salary: $18.90, with an opportunity to earn up to an additional $5,000 this school year.

Purpose of Position

The personal care assistant / 1:1 Paraeducator is assigned to provide instructional, behavioral and personal care support as outlined in the student’s Individual Education Plan. The assistant will be directed by the classroom teacher and is under the general supervision of the designated program supervisor.

The assignment is for a school year and may terminate at any time based on student placement or needs.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements

High School Diploma or GED AND one of the following:

• Hold a PA Paraeducator Credential of Competency Certificate (or be willing to complete the free online program within 6 months of hire).
• Completed a minimum of 48 post‑secondary credits in any content area.
• Completed an associate degree or higher in any content area.
• Willings to complete 20 hours of staff development each school year, and as required by the PA Department of Education: provide evidence of 20 hours of staff development activities related to the position. Pro‑ration applies based on date of hire within the school year.

Essential Physical Requirements

The strength and ability to lift and/or assist lifting students ranging in age from pre‑school to twenty‑one and any assistive appliances (e.g., wheelchair). The ability to physically restrain students in emotional stress by using the Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI), Safe Crisis Management (SCM) or Quality Behavior Supports (QBS) method, depending on program need, for which training will be provided.
