Job summary

Lancaster-Lebanon IU13 is seeking a Personal Care Assistant / 1:1 Paraeducator to support instructional, behavioral, and personal care needs per the student’s IEP. The role is performed under the classroom teacher’s direction and the program supervisor’s supervision.

The position runs for the school year, with possible termination earlier based on student placement or needs. A high school diploma or GED is required, plus PA credentials or equivalent qualifications and ongoing staff development

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• PA Paraeducator Credential of Competency Certificate or willingness to complete the FREE online program within 6 months of hire date.
• Alternative: 48 post‑secondary credits in any content area, or an associate degree or higher.
• Commitment to complete 20 hours of staff development each school year; pro-rating may apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional, behavioral and personal care support per the student’s IEP.
• Work under the classroom teacher and program supervisor supervision.
• Position duration is for the school year and may end earlier based on student placement.

Purpose Of Position

The Personal Care Assistant / 1:1 Paraeducator is assigned to provide instructional, behavioral and personal care support as outlined in the student's Individual Education Plan. The assistant will be directed by the classroom teacher and is under the general supervision of the designated program supervisor.

The assignment of the Personal Care Assistant/1:1 Paraeducator is for a school year and could terminate at any time, based on student placement or needs.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements

High School Diploma or GED,

AND

• Hold a PA Paraeducator Credential of Competency Certificate (or be willing to complete the FREE online program within 6 months of hire date), or
• Completed a minimum of 48 post‑secondary credits in ANY content area, or
• Completed associate degree or higher in ANY content area, and
• Willing to complete 20 hours of staff development each school year AND As required by the PA Department of Education: Each school year, provide evidence of 20 hours of staff development activities related to position. Pro‑ration will apply based on date of hire within the school year.

Essential Physical Requirement

The strength and ability to lift and/or assist in lifting students ranging in age from pre‑school to twenty‑one and any assistive appliances, for example: wheelchair. The ability to physically restrain students in emotional stress by using the Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI), Safe Crisis Management (SCM) or Quality Behavior Supports (QBS) method, depending on program need, for which training will be provided.
