Job summary

York Suburban School District seeks a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to support individual students with disabilities and to move with them as they progress through grade levels. This role requires paraprofessional training and the ability to obtain required background checks.

The PCA provides continuous, stable support, may move between buildings, and can be reassigned if a student leaves the district. Completion of the listed education requirements and clearances is expected.

Qualifications

• Two years of post-secondary education coursework (48 college credits) or highly qualified status.
• Highly Qualified Special Education Certificate through PDE.
• Passing CAPE test or ability to obtain highly qualified status.
• Ability to obtain highly qualified status within the district timeline.
• Prior experience working with students with disabilities.
• Must obtain PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI background checks within 12 months.

TITLE: Personal Care Assistant (PCA)

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.

Meet one of the paraprofessional competency training requirements below:

Two years of post- secondary education coursework (48 college credits) or

Highly Qualified Special Education Certificate through PDE or

Passing score on the Comprehensive Assessment of Paraprofessional Educators (CAPE) Test or

Possess the ability to obtain highly qualified status through educational opportunities provided within the timeline of the district.

Prior experience working with students with disabilities

Must have obtained (or will obtain) valid PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Criminal History Background Checks (Use code 1KG6XN) within the last twelve (12) months.

Job Outline: Personal Care Assistants are assigned to support individual students and are expected to transition with their assigned student as the student progresses through grade levels. This may include moving between buildings (e.g., from elementary to secondary schools) as needed. The purpose of this continuity is to provide consistent and stable support for the student.

If the student exits the district, the PCA will be offered any available positions within the district for which they are qualified.
