The Oak Lawn Park District is hiring a Park Groundsman I Turf Grass to maintain park turf and supervise seasonal staff. This full-time hourly, non-exempt position may require evening, weekend, and holiday work. Duties include mowing, edging, litter removal, and assisting with sports field preparation.
Qualified applicants are at least 18 with a HS diploma or equivalent; valid IL Class C driver's license; CPR/First Aid/AED or willingness to certify. Prior parks maintenance experience is preferred.
The Park Groundsperson l performs weekly mowing and trimming as well as supervises the seasonal staff in these services. The Park Groundsperson I assists with the upkeep of sports fields, performs routine custodial tasks and light maintenance repairs, and is a key member of the district snow removal operations. The Park Grounds person I is a full-time hourly, non-exempt position. Position may include evening, weekend, and holiday work.

The Oak Lawn Park District, incorporated in 1944, has a long and proud history of serving the recreational needs of our 56,000 residents with a myriad of recreational programs and services. We operate under the state tax cap as a municipal corporation, meaning we are our own taxing body. Overseen by a Board of five elected officials, the District manages a combination of 34 parks and facilities which cover over 280 acres. In addition, we manage a Special Recreation Cooperative that offers recreational programs and services to individuals with disabilities in 9 municipalities.
Must be at least 18 years of age and high school graduate or equivalent. Prior experience in parks maintenanceor related field preferred. Ability to have flexible hours during prime season is crucial. Candidate should havesome knowledge of park grounds and facility practices; some knowledge of pertinent safety precautions; abilityto operate light maintenance equipment; ability to make simple adjustments and to perform simple maintenanceon equipment; and ability to perform required duties with initiative, good judgment, accuracy, persistence,integrity, dependability, tact and courtesy.Must possess a valid Class “C” Illinois Driver’s License or obtain within 6 months of hire.Must be certified in CPR/1st Aid/AED or willing to become certified within a specified time frame.
