POSITION TITLE: Full-Time Paraprofessional (Essential Skills)

HOURS: 8:15 am-3:45 pm (35 Hours Per Week)

WORK DAYS: Monday through Friday when school is in session

WAGE: $18.90 per hour + $2.00 additional per hour with RBT Certification

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Paraprofessionals work directly under the supervision of special education teachers or classroom teacher. All paraprofessionals are responsible to ensure the safety and instruction of students across all activities and locations. Also, paraprofessionals are responsible to maintain complete confidentiality about students and their records. This position is assigned to an individual student with the purpose of providing the student academic, emotional and behavioral support as well as assisting staff with the overall implementation of the IEP.

REPORTS TO: The Full-Time Paraprofessional reports directly to the building administrator or their designee and the TOR.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based on classroom and student needs. Typical duties assigned to a full-time paraprofessional in an elementary Essential Skills classroom may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist students with arrival to and departure from school, including transitions to and from transportation, classrooms, and other designated areas.
• Accompany and supervise students in various school and community settings, including classrooms, libraries, resource rooms, cafeterias, playgrounds, related arts classes, and community-based instructional locations.
• Assist students with activities of daily living and personal care needs while maintaining student dignity, privacy, and safety and following applicable health and universal precaution procedures.
• Assist students with toileting needs, which may include restroom assistance, changing, hygiene, clothing management, and other personal-care needs, as appropriate and consistent with student plans and established procedures.
• Assist teachers and other professional staff with functional assessment activities and the collection of information regarding students' current levels of performance, strengths, and areas of need.
• Work with students individually and in small groups using age- and developmentally appropriate instructional activities and materials as directed by the teacher.
• Provide instructional support to students using objectives, strategies, and methods developed by teachers and other professional practitioners, including occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, augmentative and alternative communication specialists, and behavior specialists.
• When required by a student's IEP or individual needs, assist with lifting, transferring, seating, positioning, mobility, and other physical supports necessary for safe and meaningful participation in school activities. Carry out gross motor or positioning activities as directed by appropriate professional staff.
• Implement behavior support and management strategies using techniques established by the teacher, Teacher of Record (TOR), behavior specialist, or other appropriate professional staff and consistent with students' IEPs and behavior plans.
• Assist students with supplementary instructional activities, independent work, functional skills, and other learning activities as directed by the teacher or TOR.
• Conduct prescribed or standardized reading, mathematics, communication, functional skills, or other instructional programs as directed and appropriately trained.
• Assist teachers and other staff with crisis prevention, de-escalation, intervention, and behavior management in accordance with student plans, staff training, and Corporation procedures.
• When required by students' IEPs or individual needs, operate and assist students with adaptive equipment and assistive technology, including communication devices, computers, mobility equipment, specialized seating, positioning equipment, and other instructional supports.
• Prepare individualized and classroom instructional materials as directed by the classroom teacher or TOR.
• Observe, collect, and record information regarding student academic performance, functional skills, behavior, communication, and progress as directed by the classroom teacher, TOR, or other professional staff.
• Support students in developing independence, communication, social, behavioral, academic, and functional life skills while providing the appropriate level of assistance based on individual student needs.
• Assist with maintaining a safe, organized, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment conducive to student learning and participation.
• Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding students and student records in accordance with Corporation procedures and applicable state and federal requirements.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, case conferences, or IEP meetings when requested by the TOR, classroom teacher, or administrative personnel.
• Collaborate professionally with teachers, related service providers, administrators, and other staff to provide consistent support and services to students.
• Perform other duties related to the Essential Skills classroom and the support of students as assigned by the classroom teacher, TOR, building administrator, or other appropriate administrative personnel.
