Job summary

Amplify Bloomington is seeking an experienced Events Lead to shape the experience across our flagship venues, including The Mill in Bloomington. You will own the event strategy, calendar management, sponsorship coordination, and day‑of operations to deliver memorable, revenue‑driven programs.

The role requires 5+ years in event planning or hospitality, strong vendor and budget management, and proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams. Evening and weekend availability is expected.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in event planning, venue management, or hospitality with ownership of events from concept to close.
  • Experience selling event space or services: proposals, contracts, pricing, and closing.
  • Track record managing event budgets, vendors, and on-site teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with clients, partners, sponsors, and volunteers.
  • Comfortable with booking and CRM tools, registration platforms, and shared project tools.

Responsibilities

  • Define what an Amplify Bloomington event feels like: standards for hospitality, programming quality, accessibility, and brand presence across every event we host or sponsor.
  • Build and maintain the annual event calendar, balancing mission programming with earned‑revenue rentals in shared spaces.
  • Set goals and metrics for each event type (attendance, satisfaction, partner outcomes, revenue) and report results to leadership.
  • Create playbooks, run‑of‑show templates, vendor lists, and post‑event debriefs so events can be repeated and improved.
  • Advise program leads on event design, even when they own the content.
  • Own planning and delivery of our events, including AMP Bloomington, AMP Monthly, Bloomington Breakfast Club, demo days, and partner convenings.
  • Manage budgets, timelines, venues, vendors, catering, AV, staffing, and volunteers.
  • Partner with program leads on speakers and content, and with marketing on promotion, registration, and storytelling.
  • Secure and steward event sponsors in coordination with leadership, including deliverables and recognition.
  • Lead day‑of operations as the event’s point person, and close out each event with a budget reconciliation and debrief.
  • Own The Mill’s event rental business as a product: packages, pricing, policies, availability rules, and revenue targets.
  • Manage the sales pipeline: respond to inquiries, give tours, write proposals, and close bookings.
  • Issue and manage contracts, deposits, invoicing, certificates of insurance, and payment collection with finance.
  • Plan each booked event with the client: floor plans, timelines, vendor coordination, and building and tenant logistics.
  • Staff and manage events on site, including setup, turnover, security, and client support.
  • Maintain the booking calendar and CRM, and track pipeline, conversion, utilization, and revenue.
  • Grow repeat and referral business with local companies, IU departments, nonprofits, and community groups
  • Coordinate with facilities on space readiness, equipment, and maintenance
  • Hire, schedule, and supervise event staff, contractors, and interns as needed
  • Keep a clear line between mission‑driven events and paid rentals when space is contested

Private, lockable offices inside a coworking environment, a good fit if you want focus with shared amenities and community nearby.

A flexible Classroom for workshops and trainings, plus an Event Hall for larger gatherings. Check availability first, then book or request dates instantly.

Our flagship annual event, October 28–30, leading into IU Homecoming weekend. The one time Bloomington's builders — founders, capital, talent, and partners — all show up for each other.

Our free monthly gathering. one evening a month at The Mill: a short program, then open networking. No membership needed, open to anyone building something here.

A four-hour, hands‑on build event on October 8, hosted by Major League Hacking with us. Come with what you're working on and leave with something tangible. Technical and non-technical founders welcome, students included.

Everything happening across the Bloomington ecosystem — our events and the ones we're keeping an eye on around town.

Ambition in Bloom is John Fernandez's column and podcast on the people and ideas building Bloomington's economy. A new conversation each month.

The people and companies building Bloomington, in their own words. Founder journeys, member wins, and community stories.

You’ll own how people experience Amplify Bloomington in person. You’ll set the standard for what our events feel like, lead our signature and recurring events, and run The Mill’s event rental business end to end, from the first inquiry to the last guest out the door. Every event at The Mill shapes how founders, partners, and residents see Amplify Bloomington and the city, and you’ll be the person making sure each one lands.
