Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Missouri seeks an Operating Room nurse with 2+ years of OR experience to join a dynamic perioperative team. You will work closely with surgeons and anesthesiologists across multiple pods and cases.

Qualifications

• Nursing Diploma or Associate's degree required.
• RN license required.
• CNOR certification preferred or required.

Responsibilities

• Direct patient care in perioperative setting from assessment to evaluation.
• Serve as liaison between physician and patient/family.
• Scrub and/or circulate for perioperative services.
• Prepare instruments and ensure safety and sterility for procedures.
• Maintain patient safety and assist with regulatory compliance.

The Operating Room at BJH is separated into five Pods that each align with different surgical specialties:

• Pod 1: Pelvic specialties: gynecology, urology, colorectal, and general surgery


• Pod 2: Trauma, trauma services (wound treatment), reconstructive surgery for ortho (hip/knee replacement, orthoscopic knee and shoulder) and plastics repair


• Pod 3: Ophthalmology, Ortho, ENT, MIS, Plastics, and General Oncology


• Pod 4: Ortho, Spine, Neuro, and bigger ENT cases (example teeth extractions)

• Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within guidelines for standards of nursing care to inpatients and outpatients in the perioperative environment established by AORN.


• Serves as liaison between physician and the patient and family.


• Demonstrates competence and independent practice in roles of scrubbing and/or circulating for all HSO-defined surgical services.


• Uses established safety techniques in preparing for and assisting with surgical procedures; provides and sets up necessary instruments, supplies and equipment for different types of surgeries or procedures according to established safety requirements and preferences of physician.


• Keeps patients safe from adverse events associated with surgery/procedure, including but not limited to: infection, burns, pressure ulcers, wrong site surgery, etc. furnishes emergency equipment and supplies to prevent adverse outcomes. Preserves and labels operative specimens for analysis.
