Job summary

Goodwill of Silicon Valley is seeking a vigilant Loss Prevention/Safety professional in San Jose, CA to protect assets across stores, ADS sites, and office spaces. You will conduct audits, monitor surveillance, and enforce security protocols while coordinating with local authorities when necessary.

The role requires attention to detail, strong reports, bilingual ability a plus, and a flexible schedule including swing shifts. A California driver’s license and a BSIS Guard Card are essential.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Loss Prevention and Safety audits and surveillance of donation stations, retail stores and headquarters.
• Open and secure buildings by activating/deactivating alarms.
• Observe personnel to prevent unauthorized removal of items.
• Perform random inspections of bags, purses, vehicles, etc., when requested.
• Patrol Retail Stores as assigned.
• Control parking areas around Headquarters and Building B.
• Maintain logs/audits and submit to management.
• Notify local Law Enforcement when apprehensions are made.
• Identify safety hazards and take corrective action.
• Prepare and submit reports on safety items as required.
• Respond to police or fire department notifications during emergencies.
• Investigate and report damaged, stolen, or vandalized property.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.
• Swing shift with occasional night shifts for coverage.

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct Loss Prevention and Safety audits as well as surveillance of donation stations, retail stores and headquarters.
• Open and secure Goodwill buildings by activating and deactivating building alarms.
• Observe incoming and outgoing personnel to ensure no unauthorized items are taken out or brought into the building.
• Make random inspections of lunch boxes, purses, aprons, vehicles, etc., when requested.
• Patrol Retail Stores as assigned.
• Control Headquarters and Building B parking lot area.
• Maintain logs/audits for shifts completed at stores and submits to manager.
• Notify local Law Enforcement when apprehensions are made.
• Assist with Safety, identifying safety hazards and taking corrective action during patrols.
• Prepare and submit reports on security or safety items as required.
• Respond to notifications by police or fire departments should an emergency exist at any of our locations.
• Investigate and report on any Goodwill property that has been damaged, stolen, vandalized, etc.
• Follow and enforce all company policies and procedures.
• This position primarily follows a swing shift schedule, occasional night-time shifts may be required to support operational coverage, special events, or emergency response.
• Performs other duties as requested.

• Basic understanding of theft/larceny laws including 490.5 PC (Merchant's Privilege)

Working Conditions

The job is performed both indoors in a climatically controlled environment and outdoors. Work is completed in cooperation with co-workers. There is occasional contact with the public. The position requires periodic supervision.
