Job summary

Harold Washington College is seeking a full-time tenured track faculty member to teach Engineering Physics and related courses. The role supports the City Colleges of Chicago School of Engineering and emphasizes inclusive teaching, collaboration, and student success across diverse populations.

The candidate should have strong communication skills, experience with programming and data science concepts, and familiarity with Brightspace LMS.

Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD in Physics or Engineering Physics required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and ability to work with diverse staff and students.
  • Experience with diverse multilingual student populations and commitment to open access mission of a community college.
  • Experience teaching introductory engineering concepts, including programming, coding, and data science.
  • Knowledge of a learning management system (such as Brightspace) is valued.

  • Teach the spectrum of lecture and laboratory-based physics courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ active participation.
  • Promote an effective learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity and helps students solve problems.

FULL TIME TENURE TRACK FACULTY – PHYSICS (PHYSICALSCIENCES)
HAROLD WASHINGTON COLLEGE

Harold Washington College is seeking a candidate for a full-time,tenure-track faculty position teaching Engineering Physics andrelated courses. This position will support the Department’scommitments to the City Colleges of Chicago School of Engineering.If you have passion for teaching and learning and are committed tothe community college mission, consider joining our department. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach the spectrum of lecture and laboratory-based physicscourses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ activeparticipation in their own learning.

  • Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments toensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and theattainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
  • Help students reach their academic, personal, and career goals;and foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of peopleand ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveyingconfidence in every student’s ability to learn.
  • Contribute to and provide leadership for the department,particularly regarding the City Colleges of Chicago School ofEngineering, and in academic and professional communities; andpromote collaboration and teamwork among members of thesecommunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's or PhD in either a Physics-based discipline orEngineering Physics is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and theability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and studentsare required.
  • Experience with a diverse, multilingual student population and a commitment to the open access mission of a community college ispreferred.
  • Experience in teaching introductory engineering concepts,including programming, coding, and data science is valued.
  • Knowledge of a learning management system (such as Brightspace)is valued.

The salary range for this position is $58,000 - $65,000. Offeredsalary will be determined by the respective collective bargainingagreement and applicant's education.
