Job summary

Harold Washington College is seeking a full-time tenured track faculty member to teach Engineering Physics and related courses. The role supports the City Colleges of Chicago School of Engineering and emphasizes inclusive teaching, collaboration, and student success across diverse populations.

The candidate should have strong communication skills, experience with programming and data science concepts, and familiarity with Brightspace LMS.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Physics or Engineering Physics required.
• Excellent oral and written communication and ability to work with diverse staff and students.
• Experience with diverse multilingual student populations and commitment to open access mission of a community college.
• Experience teaching introductory engineering concepts, including programming, coding, and data science.
• Knowledge of a learning management system (such as Brightspace) is valued.

Responsibilities

• Teach the spectrum of lecture and laboratory-based physics courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ active participation.
• Promote an effective learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity and helps students solve problems.
• Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure classroom instruction leads to learning.
• Help students reach their academic, personal, and career goals; and foster a safe, inclusive environment.
• Contribute to and provide leadership for the department and School of Engineering, promoting collaboration.
