Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago seeks a tenure-track, full-time Biology faculty member to teach General Biology at Malcolm X College. The candidate should implement effective teaching methods, engage students in critical thinking, and support diverse learners across campus environments.

The role requires the ability to design courses aligned with outcomes, contribute to student success, and participate in tenure review processes while promoting collaborative work within the college community.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in the life sciences field (e.g., Biology, Zoology, Genetics).
• Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System or similar LMS is preferred.
• Prior online teaching experience and online teaching certification are strongly preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with diverse groups of students and staff.
• Experience with a diverse, multilingual student population and open-access mission.
• Willingness to teach at Malcolm X satellite campuses.

TENURE TRACK FACULTY - BIOLOGY

MALCOLM X COLLEGE

Malcolm X College is currently seeking a Full-Time Faculty member to teach General Biology. If you have passionfor teaching and learning and are committed to the mission of thecommunity college, consider joining our team. The ideal candidatewill have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing andusing effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverseneeds and engage the student in critical thinking andproblem-solving.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’active participation in their own learning.
• Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve usingdiscipline-specific thinking strategies.
• Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensurethat classroom instruction leads to student learning and theattainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
• Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals andfoster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people andideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidencein every student’s ability to learn.
• Contribute to and provide leadership in the student’s academicand professional communities and promote collaboration and teamworkamong members of these communities.
• Complete 6-semester tenure process.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree or higher in the life sciences field; Lifesciences fields include but are not limited to: Animal Science,Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Bioengineering, Botany, CellBiology, Ecology, Environmental Biology, Field Biology, Genetics,Human Biology, Ichthyology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, MD,Mycology, Nutrition, Ornithology, & Zoology
• Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System or similarLearning Management System, preferred
• Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or onlineteaching certification is strongly preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability tocommunicate with diverse group of staff and students,required
• Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population isdesired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of thecommunity college
• Willingness to teach at Malcolm X satellite campusespreferred

Salary Range: $58,000 - $65,000

Offered salary will be determined by the respective collectivebargaining agreement and applicant's education.
