ADJUNCT FACULTY - BIOLOGY, PART-TIME
Harold Washington College (part of City Colleges of Chicago) is seeking a part‑time faculty member to teach Biology. Applicants should have experience working with a diverse student population, be able to create an inclusive climate, and demonstrate success in the classroom through effective teaching strategies that promote critical thinking and problem‑solving.
General Responsibilities
- Exhibit excellence in teaching, commit to integrating new technologies, and inspire, motivate, and empower students to succeed.
- Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ active participation.
- Post syllabi on BrightSpace, return graded assessments promptly, and enter midterm and final grades online on time.
- Create an effective learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity and helps students problem‑solve using discipline‑specific strategies. Encourage research opportunities.
- Maintain office hours and be available to students outside classroom hours. Meet with other faculty members and the department chair as needed.
- Contribute to and provide leadership in the student’s academic and professional communities. Promote collaboration and teamwork among community members.
Qualifications
- Doctoral or master’s degree in biology or related fields (e.g., Medical Sciences, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Animal Sciences, Environmental Biology, Genetics, Anatomy and Physiology, or an MD).
- Previous teaching experience (preferred). Excellent oral and written communication skills (preferred).
- Knowledge of the BrightSpace Learning Management System is preferred.

Salary Range: $800 – $943 per contact hour (in accordance with City Colleges’ approved salary scale).
