Company Overview

At Residential Transitions, Inc. (RTI), our mission is to help people improve their quality of life by empowering them with knowledge, resources, and skills while always treating them with dignity and respect. We proudly serve individuals across Minnesota who are living with mental illness, substance use challenges, and other disabilities. Our services support people living independently in the community, in their own homes, as well as in our residential settings. Through compassionate care and a person-centered approach, we aim to make a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.

Position Overview

Residential Transitions, Inc. (RTI) is seeking two Full-Time Mental Health Workers (DSPs) to join our Metro Float Team, providing direct support services across our Community Residential Setting (CRS) group homes throughout the Twin Cities Metro Area.

Our Float Mental Health Workers play an important role in maintaining consistent, high-quality services across our residential programs by providing coverage where staffing support is needed. Rather than being assigned to one permanent location, float staff work at multiple RTI residential sites, supporting individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI), traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and other disabilities.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy variety in their work, are adaptable to different environments, and are comfortable working with a range of individuals and support needs.

These are guaranteed full-time positions scheduled for 40 hours per week, with schedules provided at least two weeks in advance.

Available Positions & Scheduling Expectations

We are hiring for two separate full-time Metro Float positions:

Position 1: Sunday-Thursday

Regular workdays: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

Scheduled for 40 hours per week

Regular days off: Friday and Saturday

Position 2: Tuesday-Saturday

Regular workdays: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday

Scheduled for 40 hours per week

Regular days off: Sunday and Monday

Scheduling Requirements for Both Positions:

Applicants must have availability between 6:00 AM and 12:00 AM (midnight) on their assigned workdays.

Shifts will vary based on the staffing needs of our residential programs and may include morning, daytime, afternoon, and evening hours.

These are awake-hour float positions and do not include regularly scheduled overnight (NOC) shifts.

Employees will receive their work schedules at least two weeks in advance.

Employees will be scheduled for 40 hours each week, although specific shift times and assigned locations may vary.

Additional hours may be available based on employee availability, willingness to accept additional shifts, and staffing needs.

Please Note: These positions require flexibility within the stated availability window. Applicants must be comfortable working varying shifts and traveling between residential programs rather than maintaining a consistent daily shift time or permanent work location.

Work Locations

Float employees provide coverage at RTI residential programs throughout the Twin Cities Metro Area, including:

Bloomington, MN

South St. Paul, MN

Inver Grove Heights, MN

Maple Grove, MN

Employees must be willing and able to travel between assigned locations. Applicable work-related mileage is reimbursed in accordance with RTI policy.

Role Responsibilities

Provide direct, person-centered support to individuals living in RTI's 24-hour residential programs.

Assist individuals in developing and maintaining independent living skills through individualized, one-on-one support.

Support individuals in managing mental health symptoms by identifying and practicing coping skills and alternative strategies.

Teach and model daily living skills, including medication self-management, personal financial management, household maintenance, and healthy interpersonal interactions.

Assist individuals in accessing community resources, transportation, appointments, and recreational opportunities.

Encourage socialization, community integration, and participation in meaningful activities.

Promote healthy living habits and support individuals in developing skills that contribute to their overall well-being.

Follow individualized support plans, program procedures, and applicable documentation requirements.

Collaborate with program managers, residential staff, and other team members to ensure continuity of services.

Adapt to the routines, needs, and expectations of different residential programs while maintaining consistent standards of care.

Provide dependable staffing coverage at assigned residential locations based on organizational needs.

Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations and the individuals served.

Required Qualifications and Experience

At least one year of experience working with individuals with severe mental illness, traumatic brain injuries, or related disabilities.

Ability to successfully complete all applicable Department of Human Services (DHS) background study requirements.

Ability to meet applicable BCA criminal background screening, Sexual Exploitation of Patients by Psychotherapists screening, and federal Office of Inspector General screening requirements.

Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, reliable personal vehicle, and current automobile insurance.

Willingness and ability to travel throughout the Twin Cities Metro Area and transport individuals served when required.

Ability to work independently, organize responsibilities, and adapt to changing work environments.

Strong interpersonal communication skills and a commitment to person-centered services.

Ability to work effectively with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Availability to work varying shifts between 6:00 AM and 12:00 AM on the designated workdays for the position.

Willingness to work at multiple residential locations rather than a single assigned program.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

Experience working directly with individuals experiencing severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI).

Previous experience in Community Residential Settings (CRS), residential mental health services, or direct support roles.

Experience supporting individuals with traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

Ability to adapt quickly to new environments, teams, and individual support needs.
