Job summary

The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board is seeking Full-Time Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide person-centered care to adults in residential and community-based programs.

You will support adults with IDD, serious mental illness, and substance use disorders while promoting independence, dignity, choice, and community involvement. DSPs perform daily living activities, monitor well-being, and document care as part of a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• One year of direct care experience with adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness, or experience in an Intermediate Care Facility.
• One year of direct care experience with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities or mental illness for Waiver & Day Support.
• One year of direct care experience with adults with serious mental illness for Regional Supervised Housing.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on direct care and support based on each individual's needs and service plan.
• Assist with activities of daily living, meal preparation, and community activities.
• Support medication administration where appropriate and maintain accurate documentation.

Annual Salary: $37,799-$40,091 (based on assigned program and shift)

Shift Differential: Earn an additional $2.50 per hour for eligible evening, overnight, and weekend shifts.

Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board (H-NNCSB) is hiring Full-Time Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide person-centered care to adults in our residential and community-based programs.

As a DSP, you will support adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), serious mental illness (SMI), and substance use disorders (SUD) while promoting independence, dignity, choice, and community involvement.

Minimum Qualifications

• Intermediate Care Facility (ICF): One year of direct care experience working with adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness or experience working in an Intermediate Care Facility.
• Waiver & Day Support: One year of direct care experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities or mental illness.
• Regional Supervised Housing: One year of direct care experience working with adults with serious mental illness.

What You'll Do

Provide hands-on direct care and support based on each individual's needs and service plan. Responsibilities may include personal care, activities of daily living, meal preparation, medication support, household routines, and community activities. In ICF settings, direct care may also include providing total-care assistance and using a Hoyer lift for safe transfers and mobility support.

You’ll encourage independence, monitor individuals' well-being, maintain accurate documentation, and work with program staff to provide safe and consistent support.
