Job summary

Calvary Church in Lancaster, PA is seeking a Custodial Supervisor who will perform hands-on custodial duties while developing supervisory responsibilities within the Facilities Department.

This full-time, on-site role supports the Facilities Director and the church's mission by maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming spaces for worship services, classes, and events, with increasing leadership over scheduling, training, and quality control.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Three+ years of custodial, facilities, housekeeping, or building operations experience preferred.
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred but not required.
• Demonstrated ability to lead by example and work effectively as part of a team.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to perform regular custodial duties while learning facility operations.

Responsibilities

• Spend the initial period becoming familiar with Calvary Church facilities, standards, procedures, and ministry schedules.
• Perform routine custodial duties alongside team members.
• Learn event support procedures, room setup expectations, and facility operations.
• Develop positive working relationships with custodial staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, and church members.
• Gradually assume increased responsibility for scheduling, quality assurance, work assignments, and team leadership.
• Participate in leadership coaching and development provided by the Facilities Director.
• Perform daily custodial duties in assigned areas.
• Clean and maintain classrooms, offices, common areas, restrooms, and ministry spaces.
• Assist with floor care, trash removal, restroom sanitation, and general facility presentation.
• Support room setups and resets for worship services, classes, meetings, weddings, funerals, and special events.
• Identify and address cleanliness and safety concerns proactively.
• Maintain familiarity with all custodial assignments by routinely working alongside team members.
• Model excellence in cleanliness, safety, stewardship, and customer service.
• Assist the Facilities Director in coordinating the daily workflow and priorities of the custodial team.
• Help assign and monitor work tasks to ensure completion and quality.
• Participate in training and development of custodial staff.
• Gradually assume responsibility for onboarding and coaching team members.
• Promote a positive, gracious, and cooperative team culture.
• Conduct periodic inspections of facilities to ensure cleanliness and readiness.
• Encourage accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Assist in developing and maintaining custodial schedules.
• Adjust staffing and assignments based on ministry activities, building usage, and special events.
• Coordinate with ministry leaders regarding room setup and facility support needs.
• Ensure facilities are properly prepared before events and restored afterward.
• Communicate schedule changes and priorities clearly to team members.
• Maintain custodial supply inventories and assist with ordering.
• Ensure custodial closets, storage spaces, and equipment areas remain organized.
• Report building maintenance concerns, equipment issues, and safety hazards to the Facilities Director.
• Assist with facility inspections and preventive maintenance observations.
• Support outside contractors and vendors when assigned.
• Maintain accurate custodial records, inspections, inventories, and work-order documentation.
• Utilize facility management software to monitor assignments and track work completion.
• Serve as a positive liaison between the custodial team, Facilities Director, and ministry departments.
• Respond to ministry requests promptly and professionally.
• Communicate schedules, expectations, and facility priorities clearly.
• Demonstrate a servant-hearted attitude toward staff, volunteers, members, and guests.
• Support an environment that is welcoming and ministry-focused.
• Participate in staff meetings and church-wide events as needed.
• Pray for the ministry of Calvary Church and represent the church positively.
• Develop and maintain job procedures related to assigned responsibilities.
• Be an active participant in Calvary Church's corporate worship services.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Director, Senior Pastor, or church leadership.
