Job summary

Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg is seeking a Cook II to join our dining team in a 9 AM–5:30 PM schedule, with Wednesdays and Sundays off. This full-time position offers medical, dental, vision, PTO, and a 403B with match.

The cook will prepare and cook foods with short to broader prep times, ensure food safety, handle inventory, and support high resident satisfaction while adhering to HACCP and state regulations.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years (3–4 preferred) restaurant cooking experience.
  • Serve Safe certification required or obtainable within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and food safety practices.

Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg, a 5-Star rated Continuing Care Retirement Community in Central VA is seeking a Cook II to join our team! Full-time position available with a complete benefits package including Medical, Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off, 403B with match, and more.Hours for this position are 9 AM -5:30 PM, with Wednesdays and Sundays off.


Responsible for preparing and cooking food requiring short and broader preparation time, completing food preparation duties, receiving inventory, moving and lifting foodstuffs and supplies, and ensuring high customer/resident satisfaction. Ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements for the department.



  • Prepares and cooks to order foods requiring short and broader preparation time.

  • May produce food and serve customers at an à la carte station and may operate a grill station.

  • Prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided.

  • Reads food orders or receives verbal instructions on food required by customers, and prepares and cooks food according to instructions.

  • Provides the highest quality of service to customers at all times.

  • Follows basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments.

  • Prepares foods by operating a variety of kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting and shredding fruits and vegetables, and trimming and cutting meat, poultry or fish for culinary use.

  • Tastes products, reads menus, estimates food requirements, checks production, and keeps records in order to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment.

  • May clean and sanitize work stations and equipment and must follow all Westminster Canterbury, client, and regulatory rules and procedures.


Requirements


  • Must be a high school graduate or GED.

  • Minimum of two years (3 to 4 years preferred) restaurant cooking experience.

  • Cross-trained in various jobs within department or ability to do so.

  • Serve Safe certificate required or must be willing to obtain within 6 months.

  • Knowledge of food handling and safety procedures. Knowledge of HACCP preferred.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Ability to work well with all types of individuals.
