Job summary

Biddeford School Department is seeking a Bus Driver in the Biddeford Transportation Department for the fall start. This full-time school-year position offers a 5-hour daily schedule, totaling 25 hours per week, with additional hours available for charter trips.

Training is available to obtain a CDL license. The driver will transport students and staff safely, maintain order, report incidents, monitor route timing, and ensure no child is left on a bus, supporting a positive, compassionate school

Qualifications

  • Must have a DMV Motor Vehicle Operator's license and undergo CHRC fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport students and staff between pickup locations and destinations.
  • Maintain order and discipline among students in a courteous manner per district policies; report incidents of student discipline.
  • Ensure communications devices are in proper working order before each trip.
  • Promptly report mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents.
  • Monitor route timing and submit required records and reports.
  • Ensure no child is left alone on a bus or van; supervise students at all times.
  • Assist students with special needs and engage parental involvement in education.

Specific Job Details: Starting Fall 2025

  • Family-friendly schedules ( School year, 5 hours per day)
  • This is a full-time school-year position working 25 hours per week, with additional hours available for charter trips.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Transportation, to ensure the safe transportation of students, staff, and others to and from school, residential neighborhoods, and field trips.

Brief Job Duties: The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:

  • Responsible for the safe transportation of students and staff from pickup locations to destinations.
  • Maintains order and discipline in an effective and courteous manner among students being transported in accordance with district policies and procedures; reports any incidents involving student discipline.
  • Ensures that a communication devicesarein proper working order before each trip.
  • Promptly reports all mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents.
  • Observes and tracks route timing, such as total time en route, time between stops, loading and unloading times, or any other requested information for the purpose of establishing route efficiency, as requested.
  • Maintains and submits records and reports as required.
  • Follows procedures to ensure that no child is left alone on a bus or van without adult supervision at any time, and that all children have departed bus at the end of all routes (morning, evening and during field trips or other special trips).
  • Adapting instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs
  • Encouraging parental involvement in students' education.

Full Job Description

Experience: Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.

Certification/License:

  • Motor Vehicle Operator's (DMV) License.
  • Criminal History Record Check (CHRC), which includes Fingerprints on file with the Maine Department of Education
