Overview
Full Time Assistant Store Manager (Store 6177) at GameStop. Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. The role develops and promotes a sales culture, provides outstanding guest service experiences, and supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.
Responsibilities
- Provide best-in-class guest service: greet guests promptly, respond to questions/concerns, assist with gaming needs, inform guests of promotions, recommend items, and circulate throughout the store to prioritize guests over tasks.
- Support the visual and operational store environment, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that lead to sales and repeat business.
- Process guest purchases and returns accurately using the POS system; ensure proper bagging, receipts, and high-quality guest service.
- Address guest comments in person or by phone; escalate issues to the Store Manager as appropriate.
- Promote GameStop guest benefits (e.g., reservations, trade-in, Pro Rewards).
- Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations and training associates on policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines.
- Monitor associate performance, provide feedback, and address unsatisfactory performance in coordination with the Store Manager.
- Provide recognition and feedback to associates; document performance in Workday / HR service management system with the Store Manager.
- Ensure onboarding and training for associates before opening/closing shifts; knowledge of policies, inventory control, loss prevention, safety, financial protocols, and ethics.
- Assist with scheduling, staffing levels, and ensuring breaks/meals comply with guidelines; supervise staffing to maintain guest service levels.
- Approve payroll, manage time off requests, and verify pay; ensure timely bank deposits per guidelines.
- Maintain store cleanliness, organization, merchandising, and proper functioning of fixtures and equipment.
- Fulfill Omni-Channel orders daily.
- Protect company assets through inventory control and loss prevention; inspect packages at closing; report concerns to the Store Manager.
- Support sales, profit, and shrink goals; complete required administrative and operational duties.
- Perform stock checks, restock merchandise, and organize products for easy access and visibility.
- Count, balance, and reconcile daily transaction totals; manage closeout paperwork and cash availability; perform daily bank deposits as required.
- Verify shipments for discrepancies; conduct inventories and report variances to the Store Manager/District Manager.
- Process defectives/recalls and stock pulls; label shipments accurately with packing lists.
- Maintain guest and associate safety; report injuries per guidelines.
- Maintain store records neatly; ensure manuals are up to date.
- Supervise and delegate tasks in the Store Manager’s absence; adhere to all company policies and the Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.
- Adhere to opening and closing procedures.
Qualifications
- Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States; at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
- Retail management experience (6+ months preferred); retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience (2+ years preferred).
- Video game knowledge preferred.

- Outgoing, welcoming personality with strong people skills; genuine, individualized guest assistance.
- Clear verbal and written communication; English proficiency; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; work independently and in a team; meet performance expectations.
- Operate POS system; basic math and alphabetizing; complete paperwork properly.
- Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and some holidays (minimum 3 days/week).
- Resilience under pressure; problem-solving; reliability and good judgment; ability to work alone and stand/move for extended periods.
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, lift up to 30 lbs, and other basic duties as needed.
Benefits and Compensation
Benefits: Full-time store positions eligible for incentive programs, 401(k), paid time off, dental, vision, and health insurance. Additional bonus or incentives may be offered.
Compensation: $16.25 - $20.25 per hour.
