Responsibilities
- Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations.
- Develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for every guest and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and shared passion for gaming.
- Ensure products are easy to see and buy, build sales by sharing product and gaming knowledge with guests, maintain a clean, organized store environment, and grow guest loyalty and repeat business.
- Supervise Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.
- Provide best-in-class guest service: greet guests, respond to questions/concerns promptly, inform guests of promotions, and thank every guest for shopping at GameStop.
- Support the shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that lead to sales and repeat business.
- Process guest purchases/returns using POS, perform transactions accurately, and provide receipts with top-notch guest service.
- Respond to guest inquiries by phone or in person; escalate issues to the Store Manager as appropriate.
- Promote GameStop’s guest benefits (e.g., new title reservations, trade-in program, Pro Rewards).
- Assist in setting guest service expectations and training store associates in company policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines.
- Observe associate performance and provide feedback; address unsatisfactory performance as directed.
- Ensure onboarding and training for associates prior to opening or closing shifts; ensure familiarity with policies, inventory control, loss prevention, safety, and ethical responsibilities.
- Schedule store associates, manage breaks, and supervise staffing to maintain high levels of guest service.
- Approve payroll, manage time off requests, and verify pay for all time worked.
- Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and merchandising per guidelines; ensure equipment is in proper working order.
- Fulfill Omni-Channel orders daily and protect company assets through inventory control and loss prevention practices.
- Prepare and balance daily transaction totals in POS; complete closeout paperwork and bank deposits per guidelines.
- Verify shipments for discrepancies; conduct inventories and communicate variances to management.
- Handle defectives/recalls, stock pulls, and ensure accurate labeling and packing lists.
- Maintain safety awareness and promptly report injuries per guidelines.
- Maintain organized store records/files and ensure manuals are up to date.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the Store Manager’s absence.
- Adhere to all store policies, including those in the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.
- Open and close procedures compliance.
Qualifications
- Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to legally work in the United States.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
- At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred.
- At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred.
- Video game knowledge preferred.

- Operate POS system and perform basic math and alphabetizing.
- Complete required paperwork and follow written or verbal instructions.
- Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and some holidays (minimum 3 days/week).
- Reliability, trustworthiness, and good judgment; ability to work alone and stand/move up to 12 hours.
- Physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs and perform basic physical tasks as needed.

Full-time store positions at GameStop are eligible to participate in incentive programs, 401(k), paid time off, dental, vision, and health insurance. Positions may be eligible for a bonus and/or other incentives.
Compensation
