Job summary

ContextGlobal, Inc. is hiring multiple full-time Educational ASL Interpreters to support Deaf and hard-of-hearing students and staff across DC Public Schools. You'll be embedded in a partner school for the full school year, working with teachers, students, staff, and visiting professionals who rely on ASL as their primary mode of communication.

This is a school-calendar role. You work the academic year and have summers and school breaks off, with the option to pick up supplemental assignments if

Qualifications

• Completion of an Interpreter Training Program (ITP) required.
• EIPA 3.5+ or NIC Certification required.
• Minimum 2 years professional sign language interpreting experience.
• Strong working knowledge of K-12 educational vocabulary.
• Proficiency in ASL and a strong understanding of Deaf culture and RID ethics.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse students and staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide ASL interpretation for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students and staff across academic and social settings.
• Voice for students and staff, and interpret for teachers, colleagues, and visiting professionals.

Pay & Benefits

• $40 up to $65 per hour, based on certification level and experience
• W2 employees preferred; qualified independent contractors also considered

What You'll Do

• Provide ASL interpretation for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students and staff across academic and social settings
• Voice for students and staff, and interpret for teachers, colleagues, and visiting professionals

Required Qualifications

• EIPA 3.5+ or NIC Certification (required)
• Completion of an Interpreter Training Program (graduates of accredited ITPs preferred)
• Minimum 2 years of professional sign language interpreting experience
• Strong working knowledge of K-12 educational vocabulary
• Proficiency in ASL and a strong understanding of Deaf culture and ethical standards (RID Code of Professional Conduct)
• Proficient signing and voicing skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds

Interview Process

We review every application and reach out to qualified applicants within 2 business days to schedule an interpreting screening. Applicants who advance are then invited to a brief video interview with our ASL team.

After You're Hired

Because this position is in a public school, all hired interpreters complete a criminal background check with fingerprinting, a drug test, and a possible TB screening. ContextGlobal coordinates and covers the cost of these screenings.
